Ethylene prices on a continual rise

Ethylene, a basic petrochemical product used in the manufacturing of a varied range of plastics and synthetic fibres, is experiencing a sharp demand in recent period. To meet the requirement, various countries throughout the globe, are adding up production facilities and how can China lag behind.

In last five years, ethylene production in China has seen a significant surge. With the large ethylene production bases in Central ans West China, the yearly output of the product, is bound to increase by manifolds by the year 2010.

Ethylene prices showed an ascending trend for almost all the importing countries on June 25. Prices quoted for Asian, Far Eastern, European as well as for the United States, experience a steep rise in comparison to the previous week.

Ethylene prices in Asia region:

Ethylene, CFR Northeast Asia, at US $1640-1650 per metric ton.
Ethylene, CFR Southeast Asia, at US $1535-1545 per metric ton.

Ethylene prices in Far East region:

Ethylene, FOB South Korea, at US $1615 per metric ton.
Ethylene, FOB Japan, at US $1615 per metric ton.

Ethylene prices in Europe:

Ethylene, FD Northwest Europe, at Euro 1155.00-1160.00 per metric ton.
Ethylene, CIF Northwest Europe, at US $ 1685.00-1695.00 per metric ton.

Prices in the United States:

Propylene (refining level) FAS Houston at US cent 77.500-77.750 per lb.
Ethylene, FD US Gulf, at US cent 67.750-68.000 per pound.
