VSF import price hikes in May

Latest custom statistics show that in May 2008, China imported 3335.68 tons of viscose staple fibre (VSF), marking a slide of over 138.9 tons or 4 percent as compared to the same period last year. However, this showed a month-on-month increase of 6.26 percent.

Import value reached about US $10.74 million, a year-on-year growth of 33.2 percent, and a month-on-month gain of 16.97 percent.

The average import price of May VSF was around the range of $3219 per ton, 38.7 percent higher than the same period last year, and 10.08 percent more than that in April.

In the first five months of 2008, China's total VSF imports touched 15507.79 tons, representing a slight decrease of over 6.25 percent from the same period last year.

In the period from January to May, cumulative VSF imports amounted to $46.306 million, an increase of 21.8 percent from the same time last year. The average import price stood around $2976 per ton range, a year-on-year surge of 29.5 percent.
