NSL Cotton Corporation Pvt Ltd (NCC), a company established by Nuziveedu Seeds Ltd, has come up with a proposal to the Andhra Pradesh Government to take up integrated cotton development project in the State.
A release from the Chief Minister's Office said that under the project, 38 modern ginning & pressing units at 38 locations in 14 districts would be set up at a cost of Rs 380 crore (Rs 10 crore per unit) by tying up with 2.5 lakh farmers covering 8 lakh acres.
"The company has requested the State Government to treat this project as a mega project under the State Industrial Policy and sanction various incentives," it added.
The proposal was put forth before the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, by the Chairman of NCC, Mr M. Prabhakar Rao, at a meeting.
Mr Rao told the Chief Minister that in the process of integrating the cotton farming, NCC proposes to tie up with the farmers to purchase the produce and support them by arranging supply of credit, insurance, quality inputs and provide technical advisory services which will help in increasing the cotton productivity.
