Bullet Proof Jacket
Bullet Proof Jacket
Recently, Thailand Textile Institute announced that a research team lead by Dr Somprasong Phasaprathet had successfully developed a bullet-proof jacket that meets the international quality standards.

The project was undertaken with the aim to manufacture the bullet proof jacket for domestic use. Financial support was provided by Ministry of Defence, Thailand Textile Institute.

Dr Somprasong, one of the researchers of the project at the Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi, told Fibre2fashion that it was found during the initial tests that woven polyester fabric with appropriate areal density performed well and could stop all hand gun bullets equivalent to NIJ level 3A.

Thus, the researchers became hopeful and were finally able to develop this unique product, which has already been approved by Defence Industry and Energy Centre, Ministry of Defence.

Sources say that since this product uses 100 percent locally made raw-materials, its price is expected to be almost half that of the imported version.

Reportedly, this jacket would be issued to officials working in high-risk areas in Thailand's southern provinces.

The team is still working on producing this bullet-proof jacket on commercial scale.
