Wool & silk cos experience impact of strained intl trade

Overall textile industry in China has been weakening rapidly since the beginning of this year, due to tough international trade conditions. Though dyeing and printing sectors are among the most affected, wool and silk business has not remained untouched.
Statistics show that during January-June 2008 period, cumulative production of woolen fabrics registered 325 million meters, a year-on-year increase of 5.28 percent, but marking a growth-rate which is 2.2 percentage points slower.
Reportedly, production of wool thread reached 151,700 tons, representing a year-on-year decline of 3.09 percent.
As for silk, total production of the industry reached 95,600 tons in the first half of this year, up 21.78 percent than the same period of 2007, but recording a 1.17 percentage points slower growth-rate.
