In the first five month of the current year, imports price of cotton rose to 22 percent when compared to the similar period of 2007. Report released by Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) depicts that import prices stood at US $925-1,972 tons.
However, there has been a slight drop in prices of cotton imported from African countries in the first half of July, compared to June.
Vietnam mainly imported cotton from Côte d'Ivoire, at $1,725 per ton with a plunge of one percent; prices quoted at Burkina Faso stood at $1,700 per ton which declined by 1.7percent. The country also procured cotton from Mali at $1,680 per ton, with a fall of 6 percent.
Switzerland experienced stable price growth, which came up to $1,710 per ton.
On the other hand, two biggest suppliers namely US and India saw a growth in cotton prices by 1.3 percent to $1,650 per ton and 3.9 percent to $1,640 per ton respectively.
