Iranian carpets have enjoyed a great reputation for centuries and have maintained there strong position in global market. According to the Iran National Carpet Center (INCC), the nation exports nearly 4 million square meter of hand woven rugs, which is almost 80 percent of the total production of around 5 million 2000 square meters.
Some of the regions where these stunning and mesmerizing carpets are woven include West and East Azarbiajan, Khorasan, Fars, Chahar Mahal and Bakhtiari Provinces. The Iranian rugs are mostly exported to countries like US, Europe, Persian Gulf regions, Japan, China, and Russia, which brings high revenue for the nation.
INCC is even planning to hold an international carpet expo this month that is expected to attract global buyers. Fibre2fashion contacted Mr Javad Rezaei, Director of Fair Affairs in order to gain more information regarding this fair. Mr Javad divulged, “The 17th Persian Handmade Carpet Grand Exhibition is scheduled from August 22 to 28 at Permanent Fair Ground of Tehran, where more than 500 companies are anticipated to participate."
The Director further informed, “The carpet exhibition will cover approximately 22,000 to 23,000 square meter of area, where domestic designers and weavers will take part. Buyers from USA, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Italy, France and Russia are also expected to attend the seven days long fair.
“This time even Researchers and Professors from various universities that offer courses in carpet making would also be present here to learn more about the exclusive Iranian hand woven rugs.”
