Sheepvention, one of the biggest and enthralling merino ram sale of the year, once again witnessed an overwhelming response from buyers during the two day fair that ran on August 4-5.

Flocks in Australia have been at their lowest in 80 years while the accompanying problem of mulesing and low wool prices are still to be dealt with. Despite all this, the fair saw a massive exchange of 341 rams and a rise of an astounding Au$178 on the average price of the same sale last year with the top price of a ram touching Au$19,000.

However, this did not deter the buyers who were attracted by the sheer volume and quality of the wool put on offer.

At the same event, Nadia Foti, a native was awarded the Australasian Young Designer of the year for the woolen gown she created which was described by the judges as a 'show stopper'. The floor-length ball gown was an inspiration from the moonlight on the Venetian waters, and was made from a wool and silk blend in grey and black, with an Elizabethan corset and original leaf and flower embroidery design.

Nadi will move to Milan in Italy, the fashion capital of the world for further studies. She also won a Au$10,500 scholarship for being adjudged the Australasian Young Designer of the year.

The promotion manager of the event went all out to motivate young fashion designers from various regions to enter the competition next year.
