In the first half of 2008, export value of large scale textile and garment enterprises in Jiangsu Province reached nearly 71.23 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.4 percent.
However, it is lower than the average hike of 18.4 percent of the Province's export growth and is 7.3 percentage points lower when compared to same time of 2007.
Of which, textiles sector achieved export value of almost 41.74 billion yuan, annual rise of around 9.5 percent. The export value of apparel sector touched approximately 29.49 billion yuan, boosting by nearly 2.3 percent year-on-year.
From January to June, this year, the growth rate of garment enterprises declined 18.7 percent on yearly bases.
Industry insiders believe that as clothing products directly face end consumers, they are more sensitive to changes that take place in the market. As a result, the industry is likely to be impacted by fluctuations in export environment.
