Mitsui Chemicals to expand Technical Centre in Singapore

Mitsui Chemicals Inc ("MCI") has decided to relocate and expand the Mitsui Chemicals Asia Pacific Technical Centre, which was established as the company's first overseas R&D arm, in the Singapore Science Park III.

The plan in detail is as follows:
Overview of Relocation and Expansion:
1. Objective Expand and upgrade R&D space in order to reinforce R&D in Asia in response to boost-up of R&D activities and increase in manpower.
2. New Site The Kendall Building (scheduled for construction) within the Singapore Science Park III 1)
3. Area Approximately 1,200m2 (five-fold area increase compared to current space)
4. Scheduled Relocation Date At the end of FY2009

MCI and A STAR:
1)R&D hub developed by a government-affiliated company in Singapore
2) formally signed a joint research agreement in 2004, and since then have been jointly engaged in research on catalysis and materials.

In 2006, the company opened the Mitsui Chemicals Asia Pacific Technical Centre in the ICES
3) building, contributing to acceleration of joint R&D activities with A STAR and communication exchange among researchers both in Japan and Singapore.

5) The Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences, a research institute of A STAR

MCI has formulated its new Mid-term Business Plan (the 08MTP), in which the company is aiming to complete the three dimensional strategy consisting of Economy, Environment and Society along with the concept of “The Challenge to Create Innovative Values” through the creation of innovative new technologies.

MCI believes relocation and expansion of the Technical Centre will open up new possibilities and enhance the strengths of the company's R&D capabilities, which will further enhance its creation of innovative values through the development of innovative new technologies.
