The third quarter has not been very good for chemical fibre industry of Taiwan. The reason being that, polyester products have witnessed a downfall, September offers of POY (polyester filament) and DTY (draw textured yarn) opened lower once again.
Polyester raw material PTA (purified terephthalic acid) and EG (ethylene glycol) were affected due to the fall that was witnessed in the oil market in recent weeks. PTA spot price dropped from US $1,100 to $1,045 per ton and EG went down from $1000 to $845-$875 per ton.
Recently, a number of chemical fibre plants in Taiwan have announced their polyester product prices. It is anticipated that, this month the cost will be flat or down by NT $1, when compared to August.
Market insiders are of the opinion that the market will resume its normal pace by October.
