Americhem, a global provider of custom color and additive solutions for polymer-based products, will once again be the lead conference sponsor of the Principia Partners' Wood-Plastic and Natural Fiber Composites 2008 Conference at the Marriot Baltimore Waterfront Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland.

The executive conference will take place on October 6th and 7th. Anna Ploplis Andrews, Ph.D, Senior Research Scientist for Americhem, will be presenting a paper at the event entitled “Chemical Blowing Agents: Customizable Tools for Innovation in a Changing Market” on October 6th at 4:00 p.m.

Dr. Andrews' paper will focus on the challenges associated with choosing a chemical blowing agent additive that can enhance the offerings of wood-plastic building products.

“Manufacturers have so many options to improve their value proposition through the use of chemical blowing agents,” says Andrews. “It's up to industry leaders to take advantage of this technology.

The cost benefits associated with these additives can impact everyone – from the manufacturer to the end consumer.” This year's conference marks Americhem's third time participating as the full-conference sponsor.

At the 2006 conference, Laura A. Prexta, Ph.D. presented a paper entitled, “Color Retention of Olefin Wood Composites,” which introduced improved weathering technology to the industry.

Beyond contributing to the industry dialog, the company will also be showcasing its strengths in color and additives for polymeric building products.

The company's display will feature its color and additive products designed for use in the areas of decking, fencing, siding, roofing, railing, and spa cladding.

Attendees will also have the chance to see products featuring Americhem's nGrain special effects. This new product brand was introduced earlier this year and represents a variety of simulated woodgrain offerings for plastic and composite profile applications.

“This custom line of innovative products gives consumers the realistic woodgrain effect they desire without the need for additional capital expenditures associated with competing technologies,” stated Chris Piazza, Business Director of Building Products and Extrusion at Americhem.

“With the focus set on chemical blowing agents and the new nGrain brand, our product offerings are right in line with where the industry is headed. Americhem's leadership team is looking forward to showcasing these capabilities and interacting with the industry's top executives.”

Along with Dr. Andrews and Mr. Piazza, several other key personnel from the company's building products group will be onsite to answer questions and discuss market trends that continue to influence the composites industry.
