Textile & footwear exports to Ethiopia surge

According to the statistics from the government of Jingjiang city, Fujian Province, the local export to Ethiopia in the first 8 months of this year increased substantially. Export value was recorded at US $3.91 million, representing a boost of nearly 70 percent than the same period of last year.

The key export products were shoes, clothes, shoes-manufacturing machinery, raw materials and so on.

Experts believe that the reason for this growth is the sluggish exports to traditional markets like the US and EU. They say that tough trade conditions forced Chinese footwear industry to seek new potential markets, and Ethiopia showed promise.

Secondly, since economy of Ethiopia is weak, low-grade and cheap products from China were received well, here.

Another factor is that several Chinese enterprises have set up factories in this African country. Thus, they were able to take advantage of the domestic policies and benefits to bring in machinery and raw-materials from China.

Experts said that penetrating new markets like this small nation would help Chinese industries in long run.
