SEAMS, the National Association for the Sewn Products Industry, announces plans for its annual Fall Networking Conference to be held on October 3-4, 2008 at the Clemson Apparel Research (CAR) facility in Pendleton, South Carolina. The event is open to all sewn products industry participants including contractors, manufacturers, brands, retailers, and suppliers.

The two-day event will feature a tour of the CAR facility, a wide range of informative presentations and thought-provoking forums on key industry topics, table top displays, and numerous networking and social activities.

Following a morning golf outing, the event will kick-off with a tour of the meeting host facility at Clemson Apparel Research. CAR operates a 6,000 square foot model apparel plant that demonstrates state-of-the-art technology, including design, cutting, stitching, and finishing equipment. It is a premier national resource for high-performance textiles and related materials research and applications.

The conference offers participants the opportunity to learn and share in highly relevant industry topics that include:

• Bidding on Military Contracts 101: In this two-part session, attendees will learn about the basics and challenges of doing business with the military/government and receive an update on how various associations are working with the Defense Logistics Agency and the Army to improve the interface of the military procurement system with the industrial base.

• Marketing Strategies for Manufacturing Companies: Rick Ludolph, president of consulting firm Productive Solutions, will address the importance of business-to-business marketing for contractors and manufacturers that offer production capabilities and other services to the sewn products industry.

• Going Green, The Complete Supply Chain: Jim Lovejoy, Director of Industry Programs at [TC]², will present an overview and examples of what companies are doing to make their supply chains and their own operations more friendly to the environment. A panel representative of the supply chain will add their strategies and motivations for going green.

• Motivating Yourself and Your Employees with Humor: Emily Ballance, MEd, LPC, will show you how humor can improve communication and empower you and the people around you. This entertaining, upbeat presentation will teach practical strategies you can use to motivate employees, reduce stress and add more humor, joy and fun to your life!

• Success Panel – How to Keep Employees Happy and Increase Productivity/Efficiency: A panel consisting of small to large SEAMS member companies will share some thoughts on tactics and ideas that work and, because we often learn best from our failures, some that don't.

“We are excited about the program we have planned for the Fall Networking Conference”, noted SEAMS Executive Director Sarah Y. Friedman. “The event has something for everybody. All attendees will enjoy and learn from the tour and the presentations that we have planned. Of course, the opportunity to network with peers, suppliers, and customers are among the most rewarding aspects of coming together for any SEAMS meeting.”
