Petrobras completes 55 years this Friday (3 / 10) in a very special moment of its existence, marked by the magnitude of the recent discoveries of oil and gas that will take her to a new level of energy as a company and lead the country a new era.

In addition to the successive discoveries in the area known as pre-salt, the Company has a robust portfolio of projects in all its areas of activities, with estimated investments of $ 112.4 billion over the next five years.

This figure can be raised with the review of Strategic Planning 2020, not yet finalized, and will include investments in the area of pre-salt, new refineries, biofuel plants, petrochemicals and fertilizers and expansion of infrastructure for gas supply natural and derived from petroleum.

They are, in most cases, project structuring, whose multiplier effect involves the opening of job opportunities in various segments of the economy and in various regions of the country

New opportunities:
If Petrobras has so far matched the expectations of Brazilians, we must continue projecting a horizon of even greater challenges to be overcome.

This is because the company is facing opportunities for the entire production chain in the country, requiring skills in supplying goods and services, human resources, research and technology of social and environmental responsibility.

In the year that began operations (1954) were only 2,700 barrels of oil per day, 170 thousand barrels of reserves and a refinery in Bahia.

They are produced 2.4 million barrels of daily oil and gas (2.2 million in Brazil and 200 thousand in overseas), 15 billion barrels of reserves in Brazil and abroad (not counting the findings of the pre-salt) and 15 refineries (11 in Brazil and 4 abroad).

In 55 years, the volume of oil discovered by Petrobras allowed a combined production in Brazil of 10.2 billion barrels of oil and still leave for future production, proved reserves of the fields nationals of 12 billion barrels.

From 1998 to August 2008 were paid by Petrobras to the Union, states and municipalities about $ 93 billion in royalties and special participation by production.

Large enterprises:
Over the past five years, Petrobras has taken over the hiring of orders for platforms and vessels in Brazil, which allowed the rebirth of Brazilian industry.

The company's plans point to the continuation of these major challenges, such as construction of five refineries, the increased production of oil and natural gas in Brazil and abroad, to 3494 million barrels equivalent in 2012 (also without the findings of the pre -salt); order of 63 drilling rigs at sea platforms of production, orders of 234 oil tankers and boats to support (some have already bid and the bid) to support the operations of exploration and production and in March of four thousand miles of new pipelines to carry natural gas across Brazil, among other enterprises in their various activities in Brazil and abroad.

The economic and financial results and operational demonstrate that Petrobras, even in the highly competitive scenario of the last 10 years, continued its trend of growth.

Profit rose to U.S. $ 1533 billion in 1997, when he was relaxed the state monopoly of oil in Brazil, to $ 21,512 billion in 2007, indicating an increase of 1330%.

The index of exploratory success of the company, last year was 59%, since, of the 109 exploratory wells drilled, 64 have oil or natural gas. This index is often higher than the world average.
