Export of raw silk registers decent growth

Consolidated figures released by General Customs Administration indicate that, exports of raw silk from China rose by 5.2 percent in volume to touch 11,016 tons and increased by 7.0 percent by value to reach US $276.22 million in the first nine months of 2008 in comparison to the same period of 2007.

In the corresponding period of 2007, China shipped 10,469 tons of raw silk amounting to $258.105 million. While in September alone, the country exported raw silk totaling 970 tons worth $25.51 million.

According to an data released earlier, exports of raw silk had scored 10,046 tons, worth of US $250.704 million in the first eight months of 2008, up 8.6 percent and 10.0 percent respectively over the same period of previous year, of which, exports in August fetched 1,436 tons, worth $37.373 million.
