According to latest data released by Customs in South Korea, the country exported 56,340 tons of Benzene in September, 350 percent more than that of shipments made in August. Exports in August amounted to 12,471 tons.
At the same time Korea also imported Benzene totaling 18,000 tons, down 24.4 percent from the same month in 2007 and 12.6 percent down from that in August 2008.
Of the total imported quantity, 15,000 tons were imported from Japan and 3,000 tons from USA. Benzene is a primary feedstock used in production of Caprolactam which in turn is used as a raw material in manufacture of Nylon chips and subsequently Nylon filament yarn.
