Andhra Pradesh Government approved the 'Scheme for Training and Infrastructural Support to Handloom Sector' programme aimed at developing and enhancing the capabilities as well as skills of the weavers, yesterday.

Reportedly, this is part of Central Government's country-wide initiative to boost the handloom sector.

Sources said that the training sessions will be conducted in collaboration with the State Training Institutes at Siricilla, Weavers Service Centre at Hyderabad and Vijayawada, and Hindupur, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and other such institutions.

Key intention of this scheme is to provide training to the weavers in the handloom sector, facilitate upgradation of looms and enable product diversification to suit the export market.

Insiders revealed that Rs6.8 crore has been sanctioned for this project, which will not only include basic training but also coaching regarding the new technologies.

Weavers will be educated in the latest techniques, dyeing and printing, designing, garmenting as well as value-addition procedures. Different workshops and educational trips to international trade-shows and events will also be organized.

Advanced technology will be implemented for improving production techniques, decreasing weaving and processing errors as well as creating innovative designs and styles with minimal efforts.

State Level Committee (SLTC) will be constituted under the chairmanship of the Commissioner and Director of Handlooms and Textiles, for implementation of the scheme.
