Shri Vaghela inaugurates 'Shilpa Sri Lanka' exhibition

The Union Textiles Minister, Shri Shankersinh Vaghela and the Minister of Rural Industries and Self Employment Promotion of Sri Lanka, Mr. S.B. Navinna inaugurated “Shilpa Sri Lanka” on October 22, 2008 exhibition on the occasion of commemoration of 60 years of diplomatic relations between India and Sri Lanka here today. The exhibition, “Shilpa Sri Lanka showcases the skills of Sri Lankan handicrafts.
On the occasion, Shri Vaghela said that the demonstration of the skills by the Sri Lankan artisans, their interaction with our craftsmen and their exquisite products would enable the Indian artisans to enrich further in conceptual clarity and creativity. He said that the “Crafts Exchange Programme” is being organized by involving 6 Sri Lankan artisans and 12 Indian artisans in chosen 6 exclusive crafts categories. He hoped that this platform shall provide unique opportunity to artisans for sharing their skills and techniques in developing fusion products.
Addressing on the occasion, the Sri Lankan Minister said that the handicrafts which have been nurtured through out our history spanning over 2500 years and practiced by generations are a valued cultural legacy and the promotion and development of this sector in Sri Lanka will continue. More than 30 skilled craftsmen from Sri Lanka will display rich collections in batik, wood carving, gems & jewellery, exquisite embroidery, brass ware, shell and stone.
