The 10 day fair, National Khadi and Handicraft Mahotsav, organised by Jharkhand Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan, at Gopal Maidan, Jamshedpur, concluded recently.

Craftsmen from across the country displayed their artifacts in the expo. Around 225 booths were installed here showcasing variety of products, like embroidered shawls and kurtas from Kashmir to Orissa's Kotki silk and pata chitra (painting on tussar made from stone colour).

On its concluding ceremony, Mr Jaynandu, Chairman, Jharkhand State Khadi and Gramudyog Board said, “The board wants to organise such fair in every districts of the state. We have already done it in Ranchi and Jamshedpur and are thinking of organising it in other districts too,”

He further went on saying, “There are 33 khadi boards across the country, but only the Jharkhand board is registering profit since its inception in 2004.”

The state khadi board provides various services to the weavers and artisans by opening training centres. The board also helps in granting bank loans to poor artisans of the state.

However, participants at the fair were not happy with the kind of response they received. This is quite evident from the fact that the revenue collected from the exposition has failed to touch the expected figure considering last year's collection.
