Delegates from ten countries to attend 46th session of ITCB

Delegated from ten countries will be attending the 46th session of the Council of Representatives of International Textiles and Clothing Bureau (ITCB) being held in Goa from 10-13 November, 2008.
The meet will launch an ambitious new action plan designed to reinforce and re-orient the organization's work so it can comprehensively serve the needs of member governments, business and other stakeholders in the every-changing environment for textiles and clothing.
Created in 1984 as an inter-governmental organization of developing countries, ITCB had hitherto been serving as a common platform for member governments for sharing information, mutual consultation, discussion and coordination to advance their export interests in textiles and clothing.
The abolition of MFA quotas that had long constrained developing countries' exports of these products was largely due to their joint efforts under the umbrella of the ITCB.
World exports in textiles and clothing stood at $ 550 billion in 2007, with 60% (322billion) of it accounted by exports from developing countries. A measure of ITCB's success is also reflected in the fact that developing countries. With the expected conclusion of Doha Round and consequent reductions in high tariffs, especially by developed countries, vast additional opportunities for emerging economics like India are bound to open.
