Nylon filament market shows sluggish trend

Nov '08
In the week that ended November 16, upstream caprolactam price continued to fall and market atmosphere was dull. Nylon market was still weak, with prices sliding persistently. In downstream reaches, the demand for lining materials was poor in midseason, and sale of nylon products in Shengze and Jiaxing markets met resistance. Thus, prices also declined supported by lowered rates in upstream industries.

Reportedly, FDY 70D/24F semi-dull nylon marked poor performance, price declined to 21,000 yuan per ton by the weekend, a significant decrease from the previous week. Nylon FDY bright and FDY products still maintain healthy demand, being chief materials in production fabrics based on nylon filament. Nevertheless, market volume was small last week. Nylon FDY dull 40D and 70D also recorded negligible procurement.

At present, weaving operation rate in downstream industries is shrinking. Thus, experts predict that nylon filament market will have to face more difficult times.
