Clariant launches Competence Centre - Fiber in Thane
A facility that consolidates Clariant's leading application services and expertise for customers in the spin finish sector was formally launched at the Competence Centre – Fiber (India) in Kolshet- Thane, India.
Antistatic property, cohesive property and lubrication are some of the important properties imparted by spin finish to the fibres. In order to understand the performance of existing as well as newly developed spin finishes at the pilot plant stage and to provide technical support to the customers of fibre finish business, Clariant Chemicals (India) Limited will now provide competence through a pilot plant facility.
Some of the key equipments/services include:
• Carding Machine
The carding machine is used for individualization or separation of staple fibre such as cotton, polyester, viscose etc. The output is in the form of lap sheet or web (similar to wadding). With this machine it is possible to judge the performance of primary spin finish which has properties to control the parameters such as antistatic, cohesion and lubrication (with different formulations / concentration). The primary spin finish is applied during staple fibre manufacturing by customers such as Reliance industries, Grasim industries, Birla Cellulose etc. The performance criteria's are nep generation, fibre rupture, tendency of card loading etc., after the application of spin finish.
The same criteria can be adopted to judge the performance of secondary spin finishes (with different formulations/concentration) which is applied after dyeing in exhaust process or with overspray technique in spinning mills on own / dope dyed polyester, viscose, cotton fiber and their blends.
• Draw Frame
The drawing machine is used for the parallelization of the fibre which is delivered by carding machine. The output is in the form of sliver where all the fibres are along the axis of the sliver. The delivered sliver can be used to judge the performance of fibre finish which is applied during fibre manufacturing or after the fibre is dyed (in exhaust process) or yarn manufacturing by over spray technique. The output sliver is generally checked for lapping tendency and cohesive force. These two parameters are used for judging the performance of fibre finish.
• Ring Frame
The sliver which is the output of draw frame is fed to miniature ring frame to spin yarn having the count range from 1 Ne to 120 Ne. The delivered yarn can be used to judge the performance of fibre finish which is applied during fibre manufacturing, after fibre dyeing (in exhaust process) or in yarn manufacturing by over spray technique. The output, i.e. the yarn is checked for lapping tendency, uniformity of yarn, breaking strength of yarn etc.
This pilot plant facility will help to ensure benefit to the customer on performance of the chemicals used for spin finish in the production stage. Furthermore, it will offer an advantage to the customer in resolving problems on the shop floor with respect to yarn quality.
