SABIC extends range of ultra high molecular weight Polyethylene

SABIC Europe adds – under the brand name SABIC UHMWPE – an Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) range to its extended polyolefins product portfolio. The launch of SABIC UHMWPE comprises the pre-marketing and sales of four new grades as from January 2009.

SABIC is constantly focusing on innovation and customer needs. Expanding the current polyethylene portfolio with a high level UHMWPE range is an example of this. “One of our goals is to increase our market share by expanding our material portfolio, particular in sectors with high added value that show growth potential,” explains Peter Tackx, Business Development Manager SABIC UHMWPE.

“A market analysis showed that this is spot on for UHMWPE, an extraordinary polyethylene that finds its way in a variety of new and fast growing applications that solve problems related to friction, wear and corrosion.”

Due to high impact strength and extremely abrasive resistance SABIC®UHMWPE is the perfect material for many applications: bearings, guide rails and conveying systems in packaging and bottling plants, seals, valves, pumps, filter plates, linings for rail wagons and trucks, cutting and chopping boards.

SABIC has the marketing knowledge and the R&D innovation power to further develop and grow this market together with its customers. Pre-marketing has started to create awareness for SABIC's four new UHMWPE grades – covering a broad molar mass and impact range - amongst existing and potential SABIC clients.
