Gareth Jones has been appointed Producer Relations Manager for the British Wool Marketing Board and will liaise with producers throughout Wales as well as southern and central England.

Gareth, who lives in Denbigh in North Wales, is well known to many farmers having spent 14 years working at the wool board's Denbigh depot. He returns after four years working for the Farmers Union of Wales as its county executive officer responsible for north east Wales.

The post of Producer Relations Manager is a new role created by the BWMB. Gareth, 37, will work closely with producers and wants to ensure sheep farmers develop a closer understanding of the workings of the board. He'll have a regular presence at livestock markets, shows and events.

"I'm looking forward to taking on this new role with the wool board. I want to establish closer links between producers and the board and to help farmers have a better understanding of the wool trade," said Gareth who is also Welsh-speaking.

Frank Langrish, wool board chairman, said Gareth's appointment will strengthen communication and develop a more constructive dialogue between producers and the wool board's operation.

"We hope producers will see this as a positive move to help create a much greater awareness of the wool sector and the role of the board," said Mr Langrish.
