China has had a flourishing silk industry since the last many centuries. But in the last few years, silk rearing has found a firm footing in many countries to the detriment of the silk sector in China.

From January-November of 2008, China's global exports of silk fabrics accumulated to US $2.64 million, representing a year-on-year reduction of 5.23 percent with the growth rate touching 13.05 percent lower than the rate of the textile and garment exports sector which stood at 7.82 percent.

November exports reached $510,000 with an average export price of $2.83 per meter and in the process registering a fall of $0.14 per meter from the average price level of US $2.97 per meter accomplished in January-November of 2008.
