Sourcing USA Summit defines future directions for global cotton

The Governance Revolution theme began with Dr. Allen Dennis, an economist with the World Bank, who offered insights from that organization's global Doing Business 2009 Report. The presentation was followed by Michael Kobori (Vice-President, Supply Chain Social and Environmental Sustainability, Levi Strauss & Co.), who spoke on governance factors influencing global sourcing decisions.

No discussion of global industry could be complete without addressing the issue of economics. Professor Jeffrey E. Garten (Chairman of Garten Rothkopf) presented several recovery scenarios for the world economy, and Dr. Gary M. Adams (Vice-President of Economic and Policy Analysis, National Cotton Council of America) provided global data relevant to cotton supply and demand.

Dr. Michael Fralix (President & CEO, [TC2]) acted as moderator for the conference, leading panel discussions for each of the Cotton's Revolutions themes. Additional speakers included Texas Department of Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples, who offered opening remarks for the Thursday session; and Mr. Larry McClendon (Chairman, National Cotton Council) who opened the Friday session.

Complete presentations from the fifth Sourcing USA Summit and speaker biographies can be found within the Sustainability Section of Cotton Incorporated's business-to-business site, www.cottoninc.com.
