The country which had a rich and vibrant textile industry is going through a very difficult phase since the last few years. Mis-management and government apathy added to the troubles of the sector, leading to unemployment of thousands of workers.
The other reason being that, in absence of a strong domestic industry, imported textiles have taken over the markets In the last few years there has been a influx of imported goods, particularly from China which crippled the already tottering local industry. But all that is set to change now.
The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr Udenwa, has announced that his ministry is working on a package to revamp the domestic cotton textile industry in the country. A package is being finalized to improve the competitiveness of the cotton industry in the country and encourage local production.
