An exhibition of exquisite handicrafts from the North-Eastern states of India has recently begun in Pune. The expo has been organised under the aegis of the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC), which functions under the Ministry of Textiles.
On display are beautiful crafts from bamboo, cane, jute, stunning handloom woven fabrics and clothes, jewellery and many other items which will definitely catch the eye of the local populace.
The handloom fabrics from Assam have striking motifs embroidered into the cloth to give it a striking look. Then there are beddings and pillows from Manipur, made from grass and woven silk saris and pineapple fibre articles from Meghalaya.
The craftsmen and artisans are at hand to explain the intricacies of their products to the visitors at the expo. These crafts are expected to be displayed at Johannesburg in South Africa again in March.
