He strongly felt that in the absence of these measures, the survival of the textile industry providing direct employment to over 50 lakh people in the State, fetching over Rs.30,000 crores annual forex, Rs.3,500 crores revenue to TNEB, over Rs.2,000 crores commercial tax revenue to the State would be at stake leading to a major social unrest. Therefore, he had appealed to the Central and State Governments to take appropriate steps and announce a comprehensive package in line with our competing countries like China, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, etc., to sustain the survival of the textile industry which had providing largest employment particularly for the people below the poverty line and rural women folks.

Mr Dinakaran informed that the State had been facing acute power shortage for the last one year and he felt that the situation would aggravate and continue atleast for the next four years except during wind season (May to October) during which period the situation might ease out. He said that plenty of power was available in the Northern States during winter and rainy seasons particularly during night hours at less than Rs.2 per unit of power.

He thanked the Hon'ble Chief Minister for considering the proposal of the association given through the Confederation of Indian Industry to ease out the power crisis by exempting the HT industries from power cut during night hours (10 pm to 6 am) and also earmarking suitable fund for meeting the additional variable cost spent by the industrial units to operate around 600 MW generators during 5 am to 10 pm.

Mr.Dinakaran had appealed to the Hon'ble Chief Minister to implement the industry's pleas at the earliest to minimise the losses and prevent the units from becoming NPAs.
