The W.P.I. Index based rate of inflation for the week ending 17.01.2009 has been provisionally estimated at 5.64% as against the previous week's level of 5.60%.
The textiles group has an overall weight of 9.8% in the WPI Index and hence it is an important group in measuring inflation.
The index for 'Textiles' group rose by 0.1 percent to 141.3 (Provisional) from 141.1 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of hessian & sacking bags (3%) and hessian cloth (2%). However, the prices of synthetic yarn (1%) declined.
The annual inflation in respect of the textile group of items was 10.65% as compared to 5.64% for all commodities for the week ending 17.01.2009. The weekly inflation of the textile group increased by 0.1 per cent for the week ending 17.01.2009 as compared to increase of 0.2 per cent in all commodities
