The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Mr Prem Kumar Dhumal, while presiding over the 10th meeting of H.P. Gaddi Welfare Board convened at Dharamsala, launched the toll-free helpline for the benefit of sheep breeders, to provide them round the clock service with regard to health and allied problems relating to sheep breeding and also released a handbook 'Sheep Breeding for Self Reliance'.
The Chief Minister said that insurance coverage had been extended to the members of Gaddi community and 4373 persons brought under the same so far. He said that Rs. 7.01 crore project had been posed for funding to Central Wool Development Board for wool promotional activities of sheep breeders of Kangra, Chamba, Mandi districts and Rs. 2.40 crore project had already been got sanctioned for implementation of similar activities in Shimla-Kannuar and Rampur area.
He said that 5 sheering machines were being purchased for the benefit of the sheep breeders while sheep breeder's camps were being organized in Una, Solan, Bilaspur and Sirmaur districts to educate sheep breeders about the upkeep and better management of their sheep flocks.
Prof. Dhumal said that the State Government had fixed the procurement prices of wool at Rs. 35 per kg in summer, Rs. 55 in spring and Rs. 25.50 during winter season with a view to sustain market price of the same and to benefit the sheep breeders. He said that a revolving fund of Rs. 30 lakh had also been created to strengthen wool federation.
He said that the procurement price was also being paid at designated destination to the sheep breeders. He said that Market Development Assistance facilities were also being extended to Woolfed and handling charges enhanced from 10 percent to 15 percent.
