Currently the main REACH obligation for companies which pre-registered substances last year is to form SIEFs (Substance Information Exchange Forums). These should be operational as soon as possible, particularly in those cases where companies need to submit their registrations to ECHA before 1 December 2010.
The REACH Regulation leaves the management of SIEFs to industry. However, ECHA has published a document reminding companies of the key SIEF principles and clarifying the role of the SIEF Formation Facilitator. Those nominated as Lead Registrants of SIEFs are invited to contact ECHA with their contact details. Other companies should also decide what role they wish to take in the SIEFs.
