As the international financial crisis deepens further, the overall health of the textile industry in China continues to worsen. Textile activities in the Nantong region are also suffering from the effects of the turmoil.
According to recently released statistics, imports of man-made fibres touched 4641.36 tons in 2008, worth US $16,325,200, representing a year-on-year decline of 22.77 and 16.26 percent in volume and value, respectively when compared with 2007.
The main fibres imported by textile units of Nantong were polyester and nylon fibres, mainly to process into high end fabrics like automotive and equipment fabrics. The import's are mainly sourced from Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia and US.
