Indian textile industry is the second largest in the world, accounting for more than 35% of the country's total exports. Its growth is being fueled by technology upgradation, and expansion of specialized product base. With prices becoming more competitive day by day, the industry needs to seek alternative design strategies to maintain its global market share.

Design is a major guiding force, connecting the past and the future with the trend of innovation effectively. An effective design strategy is necessary to build on the company's existing strengths, distinguish their products or services and expand the focus of design and development.

Innovation has already set in the Indian market as a trend, with novel products, and designs bringing about a remarkable change. New design approaches in the Indian textile industry have increased the focus on innovation and its process. These approaches are based on practical experiences that have established the dole of design further in catalyzing the innovation and manage it with the commercial framework.

In order to succeed further, the limits of innovation need to be stretched further. But the complex nature of the processes and methodology makes this mechanism difficult to comprehend.
