The government of Nepal is planning to re-start the defunct Hetauda Textile Mills, seven years after it closed down in 2001. The mill is expected to resume operation in April. It was closed down since it was incurring heavy losses.
The government has appointed a new General Manager and formed a management committee headed by a joint secretary in the finance ministry. The management has asked the government to release Rs 100 million to restart operations.
Fibre2fashion spoke to Mr Uday Raj Pandey, Vice President of the Garment Association of Nepal who said, “The Government is planning to restart the mill after seven long years and it also has injected some funds for the same”.
He added by saying, “Factory will still take another two month time to re-start as skilled labour is required and machineries also need to be overhauled”. “Earlier, this mill was doing very good business in Nepal”, he added by saying.
