'Supply constraints more hurtful than global crisis'– Comm Secretary
Mr Suleman Ghani , Commerce Secretary
The Secretary, in the Ministry of Commerce, Mr Ghani while speaking at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that Pakistan was trying its best to get preferential access for the textile industry in the European Union.
He decried the fact that supply constraints were more profound than the international crisis and was hurting exports from the country. Apart from taking measures to diversify destinations in exports, the country was initiating FTA;s with other countries, he added by saying.
He further said, “The Government is well on its way to initiating a FTA with Indonesia and would also negotiate for the same with the EU and US. But made it clear, that the business community would have to show greater responsibility.
He lamented the fact that despite having a FTA with China, Pakistani exporters had failed to capitalize on the same and said that there were zero exports of bed linen to China, despite the fact that it attracted zero duty in China.
He urged the businessmen to approach the National Tariff Commission regarding complaints related to dumping issues and record their statements.
