The delegate of National People's Congress and Chairman of the Board of Zhejiang Furun Holdings Ltd., Mr Zhao Lin Zhong has pointed out that China's textile industry is the biggest in the world and provides employment to 2,500 million people directly and indirectly and is directly related to the livelihood of one billion people.
However, according to him the textile industry has not received the attention on the employment as well as livelihood front and added by saying that employment is the first step in securing people's livelihood and if textile enterprises close down one after another, then where would people find their jobs?
Zhao has proposed that the National Development and Reform Commission should position the textile industry as a main means of livelihood and when drafting the policy for 2009, take the above in to consideration since even the State Council has identified the textile industry as a traditional pillar and important means of sustenance.
He also observed that the State Council has increased export tax rebate rate on textile products four times in 2008, with an increase of one percent in each adjustment, which has brought a lot of inconvenience to the management of enterprises and suggests that the future hike should be from 15 to 17 percent in one-step.
