Speaking at the opening of the Sabah Kota Kinabalu Handicraft Traders Association annual meeting, the Mayor of Kota Kinabalu, Mr Ibrahim said that plans are afoot to build a five-star type handicrafts centre in the city.
He said this was being done specifically for the benefit of the Bumiputera handicraft traders, who deserved to have this type of facility do their business, since the present market is very old and crowded, along with having some security issues.
The Mayor added by saying that, the centre would be fully air-conditioned, but off course this would be also mean a hike in rentals, but would also give an opportunity to handicraft shoppers, which includes foreign tourists to shop in a serene atmosphere
Till the new centre is built, he advised the handicraft traders to maintain cleanliness in the handicraft market, and help in the cleanliness drive launched in the city. He also advised them to attach price tags to all their handcraft goods as per the government regulations.
