'Trade diplomacy to help textile sector' – Mr Ghani
Mr Ghani, Commerce Secretary
While addressing the members of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA), the Commerce Secretary, Mr Ghani assured them that the government would give top priority to trade diplomacy for achieving market access for textile sectoral exports from the country.
He also said, all help will be provided by the government to defend trade protectionism measures put up by different countries as has been done in the past, referring to the repelling of anti-dumping duty imposed by EU on exports of bed-sheets from Pakistan.
The Commerce Secretary requested the members present to provide their qualitative inputs on supply side constraints, which was affecting the sector more than the recessionary trends prevailing in global markets.
He said, these meetings with different trade bodies were to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for a trade policy which will be implemented in the next three years. Mr Akber Sheikh, Chairman, President of Punjab chapter of APTMA apprised him of the problems faced by the sector.
