Employment potential positive in Yangtze River Delta

1 min read

A lot of enterprises in coastal cities of the Pearl River Delta area engaged in foreign trade and their orders have declined due to the impact of shrinking demand from Europe and the United States, which resulted in lay-offs after the Chinese New Year, while clothing enterprises in Yangtze River Delta area are relatively less affected.

The manufacturing sector of Guangdong Province absorbed 55 percent of migrant workers in 2008, a decrease of 3 percent from the previous year and the manufacturing sector is expected to absorb less migrant workers this year due to the turmoil and employment level is expected to drop by 5 percent in the current quarter.

Shenzhen City had organised a common job fair for all the textile and garment companies of the region, in which 101 companies provided jobs to more than 3000 people from an estimated 6,000 applicants, which reflects that employment competition among clothing enterprises in the Pearl River Delta is extremely keen.
