An exhibition showcasing Indonesian handicrafts has begun at the Convention Centre in Jakarta and which is expected to continue till March 22. The theme of the exhibition when translated from Indonesian language means 'Proud of Indonesian Products”
The exhibition has been organised to coincide with the 29th anniversary of the National Handicraft Council. The government plans to promote Indonesian handcrafts in overseas markets in a big way, to compensate the loss in traditional exports, due to the slowdown.
The government has projected a growth of 140 percent in handicraft exports in 2009, when corresponded with the previous year. Indonesian handicraft products include Batik prints on fabrics and paintings, jewellery, etc.
