According to the Minster of Industry, Ms Shakya, the government is contemplating setting up handicraft villages in the country, at Kathmandu and Pokhara. The concept behind setting up these villages is to provide the artisans a single window to produce and sell their products, which will also help them derive remunerative prices.

Ms Shakya was speaking at a programme hosted to foster cooperation with the media to exploit the information and communication technology for the benefit of Micro, Cottage and Small Industries (MCSI). She added by saying that the handicraft village in Kathmandu would be set up at the site of the Himal cement plant.

She said, the new industrial policy had incorporated MCSI for its further development and emphasised on the fact to develop MCSI with the full cooperation of the media and expected the media to motivate, creating linkages and employment for this important sector, which had the potential to boost the economy of the country.
