NYC Mayor proclaims Home Textiles Market Week

New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has declared August 14-20 as "Home Textiles Market Week" in New York City. Issued via official Mayoral Proclamation, this pronouncement recognizes the market's importance to the home textiles industry, as well as its economic benefit to New York City.

"Within the home fashions industry, Home Textiles Market Week is known as a 'can't miss' business opportunity for mid to high-end home textiles vendors and retailers alike, coming from around the globe" said Penny Sikalis, GLM vice president and home textiles industry veteran. "It's a significant honor to receive this recognition from the City."

Bloomberg cited the following sustaining factors behind the Home Textiles Market Week proclamation:
- With a combined total of nearly 500 home textiles vendors, this six-day event offers the most comprehensive selection of home textiles products found at any U.S. market with an unparalleled breadth and depth of home bed, bath, linen and home accessories.

- New York Home Textiles Market Week recognizes the evolution of the home textiles industry's business-to-business distribution channels and makes New York City an essential destination for more than 30,000 retailers and 2,900 vendors seeking business-to-business opportunities.

- GLM, a dmg world media business; 230 Fifth Avenue; and 7 W New York have joined to collectively promote Home Textiles Market Week activities, which along with a combined market directory and free inter-venue shuttle service, enhance the promotional partnerships and efficiencies that best serve market needs. With a comprehensive slate of educational programming and after-hours events designed to maximize the market experience for all participants, this event promises to be a great boon to the industry, and to the economic vitality of the city.

New York Home Textiles Market Week is produced and promoted cooperatively at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, Passenger Ship Terminal Piers, 230 Fifth Avenue and 7 West 34th Street. Products represented include bed and bath fashions, table linens, kitchen textiles, towels, decorative accessories, area rugs, window treatments and decorative fabrics.

The summer 2009 dates for Home Textiles Market Week are Friday, August 14, through Thursday, August 20, opening at 7 W New York on Friday, August 14, and at NYIGF and 230 Fifth Avenue on August 15.
