Western wool growers oppose centralization move

Western Australia does not want centralization process of wool sales in Melbourne. A self-funded group has been formed to stop this centralization as entities in the region are against this proposal. This self-funded group is an assembly of growers, brokers, exporters and merchants from the wool industry.

With regards to the above proposal, experts say that this centralization may increase profits on the east coast but will also result into the loss of many jobs, will increase the transportation costs as well as reduce the competition of wool sales in the western part.

Experts also believe that wool sales in the east coast would be a non-starter since one cannot expect wools traders from Western Australia selling their produce in the east and since prices for wool in the west are just similar to those of in the east, the west will not benefit from the process.
