NITRA & IIT to set up laboratory to test protective clothing

As a first step to strengthen the Indian technical textile industry, with the help of one time grant received from Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, both NITRA & IIT, Delhi are in the process of establishing dedicated laboratories with state of art equipment to conduct testing of protective textiles and carryout R&D.

In about two months time from now, NITRA will be equipped with Water Cooled Xenotester, Snagging tester, High Capacity UTM, DSC & TGA, Abrasion Resistance Tester (Oscillatory type); while IIT will have Sweating Guarded Hot Plate System and Dynamic Impact Tester.

These facilities will enable protective textile manufacturers to get their products tested as per several international standards. By the end of current financial year, these labs will be strengthened with some more equipment to meet the industry needs.

Being centers for knowledge dissemination, NITRA & IIT libraries are in the process of acquiring latest books/periodicals/standards on protective textiles and have also added a few books connected to the same.
