Kmart and Sears will partner with Housing Works Thrift Shops to present the fifth annual Design on a Dime benefit event on May 7-9 in New York City. Both Kmart and Sears will showcase four stylized vignettes with designs from their forthcoming fall 2009 home collections. The exclusive previews will celebrate the creative work of Jaclyn Smith, Ty Pennington, an impressive team of top designers from the Sears Holdings Home Design office, and a new collection from Country Living Magazine. More than 200 designers collaborate each season to bring the best trends and inspirations in both home and apparel to customers who shop Sears and Kmart.
TV design star Ty Pennington will offer attendees a hands-on, sneak peek at Ty Pennington Style, bringing customers up-close and personal to forthcoming trends for fall 2009. His space will feature the hottest colors, palettes, techniques and styles for the season. In addition, Pennington will show how easy and affordable it is to incorporate the latest trends in your home.
Guests will also learn how to get that Hollywood Glam look for less with Jaclyn Smith as she personally unveils her latest designs. The Jaclyn Smith Home Collection - sold exclusively at Kmart - was launched last fall and will now offer both Today and Traditions signature styles. "In developing the expanded Jaclyn Smith line, it was important to me that customers be empowered to create an entire living space from my home collection - whether it be a dining area, a bedroom and adjoining bath, or a beautiful outdoor getaway," said actress Jaclyn Smith. "The Design on a Dime extravaganza provides an opportunity to see how beautifully it can all come together with a forward look at fall."
Kmart's and Sears' third contribution to the event will be the unveiling of The Country Living Collection. Sarah Gray Miller, Country Living magazine's editor-in-chief, will make a guest appearance to debut the collection, which reflects the new look of the magazine and its wide interpretation of country style. This newest line of home fashions will roll out nationwide late summer at Sears and Kmart locations across the country.
"In offering a preview of our fall inspirations, we get to extend what's normally an insider privilege to the public at large. We love that approachability, inherent to the event, and the way it's married to beautiful design," said Theresa Strickland, Chief Home Design Officer for Sears Holdings. "We're thrilled to showcase our designers' abilities among such notable industry talent, and we can't imagine a better venue to premier our new collections - and an exciting new brand - while contributing to Housing Works' very special cause."
Design on a Dime is New York City's most popular interior design charity event. In celebration of its fifth anniversary, 50 of the world's top interior designers will create unforgettable room vignettes with new merchandise, donated and then sold for 60 to 80 percent off retail pricing. Since its inception five years ago, Design on a Dime has raised $2 million for Housing Works, Inc., New York's largest AIDS service organization. Last year's Design on a Dime raised $65,000 for Housing Works.
