'Adaptation of new trends hallmark of Gigi Inds' – Mr Idrees, Director

Gigi Industries Pvt Ltd. was set up way back in 1949 as a family owned business with a few braiding machines. Since then, the company has grown in stature and strength and today has the enviable reputation of being the biggest manufacturers of textile accessories products for the textile and clothing industry in Pakistan.

Gigi has tied up world famous companies, has a tradition of continuous innovation, strives to produce high quality products and the management has a sharp sense to interpret signals of opportunity in the market. Apart from all the above qualities, adaptation of new trends in the markets has always been a hallmark of Gigi Industries.

Fibre2fashion spoke exclusively to Mr. Idrees Gigi, Director of Gigi Industries. We began the interview by asking him the state of the sector in current times, to which he said, “Despite the fact that world is going through a phase of great recession but business in Pakistan is not affected that much as compared to other countries. Although competition is at its peak, but we believe that our unmatched product quality provides us edge to get the lion's share in market”.

Recalling his association with the industry since the last 60 years, we asked him to comment on its strengths and weaknesses, to which he replied by saying, “Products from Pakistan's textile sector are recognized worldwide. Pakistani products were much cheaper as compared to other players of sub-continent”.

He continued, “Presently, there is a continuous increment in the basic input of the sector i.e. Gas, Electricity, Yarn, rubber etc. Due to this increment, Pakistani textile sector is gradually becoming incompetent in the global market and the Government should take immediate measure in order to provide relaxations to the textile sector”.

Next we asked him to delve on the level of competition in Pakistan and how Gigi fights to gain and retain market share, to which he explained by saying, “We have to face two sorts of competitors; First, with those companies who are delivering same product as ours and secondly with those who are copying our brand in the interiors”.

“Actually Gigi Industries (Pvt.) Ltd. is as old as Pakistan. Our brands are being copied without any hesitation in the interiors and different regions of Pakistan, due to which we have to be very active and we have a very professional, experienced, dedicated sales team which is working hard in order to meet all the challenges of the changing markets and it is worth mentioning that we are the largest manufacturer of textile accessories in Pakistan not theoretically but practically”, he ended by explaining.

To conclude the interview, we asked him as to how he sees the role of a internet B2B portal like fibre2fashion as a promotional platform for branding across the globe, to which he enthusiastically said, “We really appreciate the contribution of Fibre2Fashion in order to bridge the gap between the buyers and sellers globally”.
