Jute is being utilized for a number of products in both traditional and modern ways. Hence innovation in end-products and modification of this fibre becomes essential depending on the end use of it, to increase its demand.

Jute fibres possess a chemical composition that is very complex in nature. It consists of cellulose, hemicelluloses and lignin which require that its chemical processing be done very delicately as harsh treatment might damage the fibre.

Dyes applied on jute should have properties like specific colors, substantivity, or affinity to the fibre and solubility in water. Chemicals like salts, acids, alkalis, etc popularly known as dyestuff auxiliaries are used for dyeing jute fabrics.

Pre-treatment of jute fabric is very important for the making of reproducible hues as final shades mainly depend on the substrate.
