Cotton imports continue to fall

According to customs statistics, China imported 99,000 tons of cotton in March, down 115,000 tons or 53.7 percent year-on-year and in the first quarter, China's cotton imports totaled 270,000 tons.

Till March, China's cumulative cotton imports in the ongoing cotton year, reached 740,000 tons, down 585,000 tons or 44.2 percent from the same period last year and cotton yarn output amounted to 2.33 million tons, up, 5.1 percent year-on-year.

As of end of March, cotton procurement by the state in the 2008 cotton year completed 2.68 million tons and adds up to 98.5 percent of the already announced procurement plan of 2.72 million tons of cotton.
